Cullen Hoback dives into one of the most enduring and high-stakes mysteries in technology and finance: the origins of Bitcoin and the identity of its anonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. More than a decade after Satoshi's disappearance, Bitcoin now threatens to disrupt the global financial order, forcing nations to reconsider the very nature of money as Satoshi potentially stands to become the richest person on earth. Known for uncovering clandestine subcultures and movements through digital forensics, Hoback immerses himself with key players, uncovers never-before-seen clues, and humorously unravels Bitcoin's chaotic origins and meteoric rise. MONEY ELECTRIC offers a thrilling, globe-spanning investigation into the intentions of Bitcoin's enigmatic inventor, as Hoback encounters those who could be Satoshi, seeking to reveal who holds the power -- and what they might do with it if Bitcoin were woven into our daily lives.

Jack M Loved this doc. Watched it five times this week. Anyone who say that the fate of Satoshi’s coins ain’t relevant is lying to themselves or to others. Excellent primer (on Bitcoin history etc) and Satoshi’s possible ID. Was a fascinating portrait of human nature. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review João A People who are saying it's irrelevant who Satoshi is are out of their minds. Just watch it. Minus half a star because they didn't include the full Vitalik rap. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Ann H This is actually the best break-down of bitcoin and its history that I have seen so far. The bitcoin community typically just rages about it and no one is able or willing to explain things in normal human terms. It's like if you don't understand it its your own fault, you are not worthy. The film paints a compelling picture of how bitcoin came to be and why so many people are invested in it. The characters are very interesting, not your typical crypto bros (well, except for a couple!). The mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto really drives the story. It's incredible that so many people believe that it's some kind of a god figure - they even say "immaculate conception" like wut?! Anyway, it feels even more important to know who Satoshi is after watching the film. Of course, the person is denying it, but it'd be interesting to see what he does next. Better than Jinx IMO Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Gary J Embarrassingly bad. I'm not sure what's worse, the director's arrogance or ineptitude. The supposed "discovery" is one of the older theories, dating back more than a decade. There's literally nothing new here, and frankly much better candidates for who SN is that what this disingenuous money-grab comes up with. Yikes. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Ranjan L All the time, resources, and access this dude got could've been spent on making an actually useful documentary about Bitcoin. There's a lot of topic to uncover with it's potential to change the world for the better. But like most of the lazy journalists of modern times, this guy decided to make a documentary about speculation; and a speculation about something that is arguably useless piece of information. Who Satoshi Nakamoto is is irrelevant, but the technological advancement introduced by Bitcoin and the potential of it to impact efficiency in multiple levels of financial and economic instruments is definitely important. Make a documentary about that maybe rather than going on a pointless goose chase. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Linda K The doc kept me engaged through the end, found myself shaking during the final confrontation. I don't care that much about bitcoin, but this is a badass story! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
