Principal’s Desk Upcoming Dates School Care News

From the Desk of Steve Kelnhofer - Elementary School Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Ledger community is well on it’s way as we welcomed everyone back to the Ledge about a week ago. The students are adjusting well to the school day routines. Every student brings their unique gifts with them as they interact within our community. A couple of days ago, we had a 4th grade student go out of her way to help a fellow student as she was entering the classroom with all of her learning materials. It was a wonderful sight of leading and showing respect gleaned for the Ledger Way Core Values. Many similar stories are found and shared if we search for them in our community. The Ledger Way is alive and well.

Safety
Thank you for supporting our parking plan on the upper south parking lot. It appears everyone is pitching in and doing their part by using the middle lane and west lane to exit the lot. This process supports safety and supports everyone driving forward and limiting the need to go in reverse where students and parents may be walking. Please use the west portion of the Hug and Go lane. By pulling all the way ahead and use the west side we will eliminate the back up on the east side of the lot. Thank you for working together to keep everyone safe and moving around the parking lot.

When the school day concludes, a parent/guardian must be supervising their child(ren) if the intention is to use the campus grounds to play after school. SMSA only supervises students that attend After School Care. We are asking you to please leave pets in the car or at home when dropping off or picking up children. Pets are not allowed on our lower playground. This is to keep everyone safe as we drop off or dismiss from school. Thank you for your cooperation.

All-System Mass Reminders as we have our All System Mass Friday, August 30th. Grades K – 5th boys and girls are to follow our everyday school uniform attire for Mass. Grades 6th – 8th boys and girls are required to wear Lands’ End oxford button down shirts, with the SMSA logo, in white, French blue, Land’s End Lake blue and white stripes. Boys are to wear an approved SMSA Lands’ End striped neck or bow tie.
Pants must be worn by boys. Girls may choose to wear a school appropriate skirt or school appropriate pants to mass. Shorts are not allowed at All System Mass.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of SMSA.

God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer

Welcome to the new school year! SMSA Food Service is part of the National School Lunch Program and we strive to present tasty and nutritious meals for our students every day. There are a few reminders for the upcoming year. Online underyou will all menus, necessary forms, and information for food service. The Food Service payment policy has instructions on food service payment and instruction for setting daily limits using the skyward family access on purchases for your students in the middle school and high school who have a la carte choices.

If you have limits on your children’s purchases from last year, these have carried over, but you should review your limits annually as prices have changed on our offerings.Current pricesare online under the resources.

Our lunch accounts are family based so all children draw off the same funds. When applying funds online through eFunds, it is sufficient to put funds on one account, not each student.

Parents are always welcome to come and share a meal with their children. We hope to see you visiting our cafeteria soon.

We are pleased to announce that St. Mary’s Springs Academy will be piloting Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (Amplify CKLA) this school year in one classroom at each grade level 5K-5th grade. Amplify CKLA is a nationally recognized curriculum used in over 38,000 classrooms and top-rated by the third-party curriculum review organization, EdReports. Built on the Science of Reading research, Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) sequences deep content knowledge with research-based foundational skills instruction. CKLA’s evidence-based practices drive successful results for millions of students nationwide and meet ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) evidence requirements and the updated Wisconsin legislative requirements brought forward through Act 20.

Amplify CKLA is grounded in the Science of Reading research and incorporates the best practices for teaching foundational reading skills. By combining deep content knowledge with research-based instruction, CKLA ensures that your child develops both a strong foundation in reading and a broad understanding of various subjects.

Amplify CKLA provides engaging classroom resources and lessons that aim to help every child become a confident and fluent reader. Through exposure to a wide range of rich topics, each child will also deepen their background knowledge and expand their vocabulary. Research shows that background knowledge and related vocabulary greatly contribute to improved reading comprehension. That is why CKLA integrates content knowledge from science, social studies, and literature into the literacy block.

Welcome Back! We hope you had a wonderful summer! Are you wanting to get more involved in our Parent Connectors Group? If so, look for the Parent Connectors volunteer form in your packet you will be receiving at the supply drop off day (3K-5th Grade). If your youngest child is in 6th grade or above, you won’t be receiving a form to fill out but can email Andrea Nuss,alnuss@charter.net, to share that you are interested in being a part of our group. Every year a new email group gets created so please submit your form even if you have done so in the past years. Also, only one form per family is needed to be filled out. Throughout the year, our group has various school family events as well shows our amazing SMSA Staff how appreciative we are for them. By being a part of our group, you will receive emails that shares ways you can help with these events through volunteering and donating. Our group wouldn’t be a successful without all of the wonderful people involved in it. Thank you so much! If you have any questions, please email Andrea Nuss,alnuss@charter.net.
